SCARP is based in the town of Sassoferrato in the Marche region of Italy. Sassoferrato has been called one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and is home to a thriving culture of arts, museums, and dining.
While not as large as Rome or Florence, Sassoferrato offers project volunteers a welcoming home base with several restaurants and cultural attractions all walkable from the city center. Practice your coffee order at Cafe Mimosa or grab a pizza at La Rocca before exploring the Palazzo dei Priori Museum. On the weekends you can catch a bus to the nearby city of Fabriano, where you can find trains to all major cities in Italy. Or you can travel east to reach the Adriatic coast to visit the beach, an easy day trip from Sassoferrato. Additionally, several local events take place in Sassoferrato each summer, including a historical reenactment of the Battle of Nations the last weekend in July!
